msr dragonfly windscreen use

i've seen pictures of hikers "cupping" the windscreen aroun their stove. is this what i should do, and can i do that with the supplied windscreen? or should i just wrap it around the stove like a circular wall? also, what is the circular piece of wind screen for?

The windscreen is for wrapping around the stove and the pot, the circular piece is for you to put underneath the stove to reflect the heat up to the pot, which suppose to save fuel in the long run, but I don't really use that.
