Went up to 7500' in the Sierras this weekend to meet a storm. Got two plus feet of heavy "snowman snow" Was snowin when we got there - never let up. Trouble was it warmed up this morning to around freezing and we were very wet though we were warm - modern materials are great.
Anyway the floorless Moss pyramid tent with about 8 corners - each with a stake - and one center pole worked fine as a cook tent but some time in the night we heard a loud snap that was the aluminum center pole... The tent simply sank beneath the snow and disapeared. Oh well a ski fit the role well in the morning only I had to shovel 2 feet of snow off the tent first.
We were glad we didn't have to spend another night out there in the worst of all worlds - warm snow fall and nearly whiteout conditions. Oh yes - bring choclate doughnuts for emergencies.
