Sure c'mon over.........
I live in Cinderella's castle at disney. Just tell the munchkin at the door your there to see me and he'll get you all washed, clean and buffed up. The munchkin will make you put clothes on under that beaver coat.
The gators and snakes are located in bldg near by. We gotta ride in a pirate boat and walk thru a haunted house to get to 'em. We can camp out anywhere.
The neighbors are kinda weird. I got one stupid neighbor who is a six foot rat and he likes to stick his big rat face into your tent at night.

Hey hikergirl,
If I do get back there I want to camp with you too. I'll cook you steak and potatoes... (;->)
I'm begging my head hunters to quickly find me a job in colorado or Arizona before I have to take the one in FL.

how far are you from the Ga/Fl border? I don't even know where Augusta is.
I've Been to Fort Gordon once for two weeks, don't recall how far that was from Saint Mary's, Ga.

Well, I'd say about 260 miles give or take a few. I've been to Fernandina Beach, St. Augustine four times (lovely old city) and Orlando to fight the mob scene at Disney World.
BTW, Augusta is 150 miles east of Atlanta.

Airport nearby?
Hikergirl,
Is there an airport near you?
I'm being interviewed tomorrow Wednesday - may soon know if I'm actually coming out.
P.S. Is there anyplace to buy Gator Steaks near you? That would be a real trip to cook gator steaks over a campfire. I'm hoping Ed and I can get us some nice fat cotton mouths fer dinner.
Ed says he can't backpack till after his marathon in November - scared of hurting hiself.

Jacksonville airport is about 30 miles
south of were we can go camping. Name of the place is Cumberland Island National Seashore.
Reservations need to be made. They only allow a certain number of people on the island at one time.
I've tried fried gator tail once. I don't care for it! If I don't hump it in, I don't eat it.
I'm not afraid of hurting myself, I know how backpacking and serious distance training do not mix. Humping that 45 lb pack sucks a lot of strength out of my legs. Makes a short run of 6 miles hard. I'm real determined to make my goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon a reality.
Just too bad the major part of my training is at the same time you are heading this way.

That would be quite the feat (no pun intended). Having run the San Francisco Marathon in 1980 and 1984, I know how difficult it is to qualify for the Boston marathon for us mere mortals. I just missed it for my age group at the time. Knees are shot now. To keep this on a backpacking level, I agree with staying away from backpacking for you. Having just got back from an eight day hike, my knees and hips hurt.

Thanks Paul........
You just missed qualifying back in the '80s? That's a huge accomplishment. I too ran marathons back then. I was a distance runner for my college - Slippery Rock State College. I competed in the indoor two-mile during the winter and in the spring I ran the Penn Relays Marathon.
Back then the Boston Qualifying time for my age was 2:50. My best time was 2:57.
Six months ago, I stumbled across an article about the Boston Marathon and discovered that the BAA had lowered the qualifying times. Now for my age group (48) the qualifying time is 3:30!
I immediately started training again thinking
I can do a sub 3:30 (even though I have had a 20 year rest break).
I'm running the Space Coast Marathon in Melbourne, Fl in November as a test and my target marathon is the Hopps Marathon held in Tampa, Fl in January.
If I don't get my "BQ" this year, then next year. It's awfully tough getting back into long distance running during the Florida summers!

Hey ---- I Did!

I bought the Exped Deluxe DAM just before I left from Charlie Jennings of Bear River Outfitters and I used it the whole time. I was noticably warmer and more comfortable at night. I'm not sure what caused the hip soreness but its going away. May have been the grade with 1000 elevation gain in less than two miles abunch of times. I noticed it while hiking, not in morning after sleeping. May have been the waist band on the pack.
