Australian gear.

I've just been travelling in Australia and have to say that the best gear outfitter I have so far seen would be Paddy Pallin.
For a start the staff know what they are talking about.
And they make their own brand Pallin, this gear appears
to be all made in Australia. I got myself a fleece and a Gore Tex and both appear to be better than most of our stuff. Get it if you can. T -WY.

I must take exception to this. I've wandered in and come across some amazingly insular and ignorant staff. Some of the staff are definitely knowledgeable, but I have found them to be generally more arbitrarily opinionated than staff at their compeitiors.

Two examples: One sales guy had never heard of eVent and insisted that there was no need to consider anything beyond Goretex "because it's used by NASA". Another confidently asserted that Osprey makes the best packs when I asked why they were twice as expensive as other manufacturers such as Macpac.
