Re: taber 11 boots

I have seen some Herman Survivors at, brace yourself, Wal-Mat. I suspect the rights to the name have been sold.

sort of

When the company went under, the name was bought by Wal-Mart, which is now selling a line of boots they're calling Herman Survivors. By all accounts they're cheap, flimsy, and short-lived -- the polar opposite of the originals.

The reviews tell an interesting story: people who bought the originals love 'em; people who bought the new ones hate 'em. Go figure.

My wife has a 25 year old pair of the originals

she still wears them around the yard as work boots and does love 'em.

Big, ugly, thick leather and green. Vibram soles.

Hi, I cut and pasted what I could find. However, when I tried the website indicated I had no luck. The address and telephone numbers were listed in several places I came upon.I Hope it helps.

I understand that the Herman Survivors name and operations have been bought by Walmart, which is the only place they can be found. That explains why they are now so poorly made.

hermansurvivors.com is a b.s. search engine which will worm it's way onto your hard drive. Beware

The boots may not be up to standards, but Herman has a waterproofing spray - found at Walmart - that does a good job restoring old black leather coats to a decent shine.

Herman Survivors used to be made in Millis, MA up to the late 60's and then moved somewhere up in Maine. I have tried a Web Search with (0) results. I know they must still be in business somewhere because I saw their boots for sale in Wal Mart. They were made in China and they sure looked cheaply made. I wore a pair of Herman Survivor Tankers boots when I served in Vietnam in 67-68 and they were made in Millis, MA.

Owned by Wal-Mart

The Herman Survivors company no longer exists. It went out of business in 2000. Wal Mart bought the name and, as you noted, now uses it on a completely different, lower-quaility line of boots. The name lives on (sort of) at Wal-Mart, but the company is long gone.

herman survivors made a red logger boot, steel toe, insulated. so how come you can buy these boots at most of your local wall-mart if they've gone out of business.

When Herman Survivors went out of business, Wal-Mart bought the name. They "Herman Survivors" that Wal-Mart sells are not the same boots as the original Herman Survivors. They are much cheaper and by most accounts very poorly made.
