Moving - hope everyones ok
Hi all - I sure hope Ed and Hikergirl and all our southern members weathered this last storm.
I am moving to Bend Oregon in another month to semiretire. I bought a chalet type house on the road out to Mt Bachelor, this is also Cascades Lakes Hiway and goes on west and through some incredible country and passes the three sisters wilderness. My house is about 25 miles from the wilderness about two miles out of town. It has a bunch of 200 foot ponderosa pines on the land too.
I am looking forward to trying out Smith Rock and the local trout fishing and I am about to buy my first snowmobile!

Jim, are you turning to the dark side in your old age?

Snowmobiles, trout fishing and pines that kiss the sky. Sounds like heaven to me! I'm jealous.

Your email address disappeared??
Jim -
I sent an email to the last address I had for you. Days later (can't believe how long the "unknown" took on the round trip), I got a "non existent, unknown" response from the Mailer-Daemon at the old server.
Send me the new address. I will be up in your new location during the winter for some BC skiing and in spring for some climbing.

Jim, Best of luck in your new loc. It does sound like heaven on earth - especially the semi-retirement!
There was no problem here with the storms, just some wind, but I'm sure Ed got some nasty stuff.

HG! Howdy. Where have you been hiding?
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. I have been on an-anti hurricane mission... camping in the front yard, naked dancing in circles around a small oak tree, flinging cheerios into the air while singing Jewish show tunes.
I hope the weather gods are happy for a little while.
No rough weather here. Not even a little wind. Just normal Florida afternoon thunderstorms.

Ed, I just have not hiked or camped but twice this summer due to the heat and humidity. That's not my idea of fun!
Now I'm having a problem with a painful arm and I am not sure I can put on a heavy backpack.
Looks like hurricane Wilma will send something your way!

we shall see about 'ole wilma. I really doubt anyone can predict with any accuracy where this thing will go until Saturday
I was scheduled to go on a four day trip on my island starting today (thurs 10/). Just didn't feel comfortable about taking off and leaving the folks back home to fend for themselves.
Luckily I was able to snag a permit for next week.
I certainly understand about the heat and humidity. This trip will be my first of the year. Temps may even be in the mid 50's! I'm looking forward to that.
I am doing my first backpacking trip using just a hammock and rain fly's. No tents allowed. This certainly should be a learning experience.
I'll let you know what I think about hammock camping.
