Proper Backpack Fitting - S-M-L

Can someone explain the proper way to measure your "Torso Length"? It seems like everyone has different ways and 1-3 inches can be a miserible and costly mistake. The problem is in the Pelvic area for me. Do you draw an imaginary line across your back from the top of the side of your pelvic bones? Any insight on this situation would be appreciated. Thanks!

Dave -
This link should be right at the top of the "Packs" part of the Gear Repair forum and pack review section.

Tom - thanks for posting this.
