Dec 1st and still no snow in Jackson Hole

Downtown Jackson Hole is as dry as a summers day. There is snow in the high country above 7000 feet but nothing down here below 6500. Temps are still hovering around 50 degrees in the day time and down to the 30's at night. Too cold at night and to warm in the daytime to snow? Just seems strange to see the indian summer days in late fall/early winter.
Last year we got a total of 650+ inches.
The local ski lifts are barely open with only the lower slopes of Teton Village open and Snow King not at all. The new 100 person tram is due to open Dec 23rd. The old tram has been down since the winter of 2006.

Re: Dec 1st and still no snow in Jackson Hole

Hi Gary
Maryland has a base of 3 feet already in the far western part of the state. Jackson Hole is a beautiful place. While Hitchhiking in 77 I met the Governor's son who gave me a ride to the lake and let me and another dude sleep on his boat. Incredible views of the lake and mountains.
Take care of yourself = you are a living relic of a time gone by.
We may have crossed paths on the road in the late 70's! You should write a book.

Maybe we could co-habulate(?) and write one together...I would like to hear more of your adventures.
Is that your wife in your photo? Where in Maryland do you live? I have made Jackson my home for about 28 years. In the beginning from 1980 to 2005 it was only my summer home and I lived and hiked around the southwest during the fall/winter and springs. I spent 20 years from 1983 to 2003 hiking the Grand Canyon during the fall and spring and often working the south rim during the busier months of mid-winter.
I worked in Zion NP the summer of 2007. The previous one in 2006 I worked in Denali NP in central Alaska. The summer before that in 2005 I worked in Mt Carmel Utah near the Grand Staircase Nat Monument. I had taken off three summers to travel and work other areas, but discovered I still liked Jackson Hole best.
At my job as a Dietary Tech ( Prep Cook) at the local hospital I work two 12 hour days a week giving me 5 days off as my weekend :). During the summer months I work 3 twelve hour days with four off. I spent the past summer hiking/camping around Jackson in the Tetons,Gros Ventre and Wyoming ranges.
This winter my roommate and I plan to travel on my days off and go to places like Zion NP to hike and camp. Maybe even to Moab to visit Arches NP. I am also looking into doing some snow coach tours of Yellowstone just up the road.

Hmmm and there's even snow in the San Francisco Bay Area :-)

(I shot these on Mt Diablo last week).

It rained most of last week here, it's was 28 today, and 40 tomorrow then back into the upper 60s? What the Fraggle Rock.

I want it to snow.
