If any of ya'll have time off this winter, now is a great time to hike the Grand Canyon. Today the rim is getting close to 60 degrees. Which means the bottom and Tonto Platform halfway down are going to be in the 70-80s now around now/today.

December and January have always been my favorite two months to hike the canyon cause the days are usually warm compared to the rim inside the canyon. It usually does'nt snow much below the rims. The south rim usualy has daytime temps of 10-30 degrees while the inner canyon is 40-60 degrees. But this winter is so warm it would be even nicer. Its going on 64 today here in Flagstaff!

I spent from 1983 to 2003 hiking the canyon from as early as late September to early April at the latest.

This is what the San Francisco Peaks above Flagstaff look like now and they are 12,633 feet high.

This is the view from the Grand Canyon webcam a moment ago at 12 noon Dec 13th 2010 taken on th south rim.

Thanks for sharing, Gary. Those are some unseasonably warm temperatures for December.
