My wife is trying to persuade me that less-processed foods might be better for me. For trail food, that's easy. I have swapped nuts and dried or freeze dried fruit for energy bars. Works fine. Almonds, raisins, turkish apricots, and freeze dried blueberries have been my favorites so far.

Any thoughts about raw cocoanut water as a corollary to water? A lot of potassium in cocoanut water, which seems like it would be a good thing.

As long as you keep it as cold as possible so it does not ferment. Unless you like coconut liquor?  Is it expensive? And as Tom Hanks character noted in Castaway, its a natural laxative.

harmless harvest raw cocoanut water is what i had today after a couple hours hike.  it tastes better than others i have tried.  unlike most i have tried, it is completely raw and unheated - sterilized by pressurization.  has a slightly pink hue.

yes, it has to stay refrigerated.  not really an issue here, as it was at or below freezing all day anyway.

Coconut is supposed to be a natural laxative...so I'd be mindful of that fact:-)

I've been making my own fig/coconut/almond bars with the same effect of, um...speeding things up. But I really like eating them so I think I'll get used to it eventually.  I hope.

You inspired me, Andrew! Bought a coconut and consumed it with the kids tonight.
