Hi everyone,

I have an opportunity to purchase a new in the box filter system that is probably about ten years old (sweetwater Guardian).  This thing is going for a song, is too good to be true?

Thanks,

Matt

The filters have changed in their construction over the 10 years, though the Sweetwater has always been a good filter. As long as it is new, in the original box, and has not been subjected to any abuse (getting taken out of the original packaging and subjected to poking or allowed to collect dust and dirt), it should be fine. Sometimes people get something near the end of their enthusiastic participation in the outdoors, and it gets put on the shelf and never used. The filters aren't like batteries with a limited shelf life. I have an unused Sweetwater filter core myself, since I use my Katadyn Hiker Pro and my SteriPen much more these days.

But you might check with MSR (Cascade Designs), the current owner of Sweetwater, to see what they say.
