WTB: Expedition down pants & parka

I am looking for size medium down pants and parka in good condition or better. Prefer Feathered Friends, Marmot or Mountain Hardwear.

Re: WTB: Expedition down pants & parka

This probably would be inconvenient, but the best places to get "experienced" down gear are places like Talkeetna airport (Alaska), Punta Arenas airport (Chile), Paradise (on Rainier), and other places where people are returning from their "once in a lifetime" climbs and know they will never use the gear again. You might contact the 5 guide services that guide on Denali to see if they can put clients in touch with you. Some of the people basically just give their down parkas and pants away at the end of their climbs.

You can sometimes also get good deals from the outlet stores (TNF has outlets for its gear, but also Sierra Trading Post and Northern Mountain Supply), or end-of-the-season sales at specialty climbing shops.

Also, you should try on the parkas and pants (or at least try the particular models in the store) to be sure they are the right size. I wear medium for most clothing, but my down parkas and pants, fleece overpants, and outer shells that go over the base and mid layers are all "Large" - mediums fit too snugly and compress the down (which reduces the insulating value).
