Thanks leadbelly!  That was actually a holiday gift some time ago. It certainly came in handy in DC, but the expression I actually made when I got it was a lot funnier than the one in the picture!

Just smile and thank the giver for thinking of you.

I think what is worse is getting something "outdoorsy" from someone who doesn't quite understand your hobbies. Heated socks come to mind.

That's our very own Seth, who I have never seen wearing a tie.

Hi Lodge Pole - I'm glad you liked the picture. Like I told Leadbelly, the face I made when I got that tie as a gift for real was soooo much better!

Oh well that explains it. Nothing is better than being honest and not acting....

I ain't got no use of neck ties either unless they are made of long strand manila, and 30 feet long.

In the avatar Seth uses he seems to be in the East. He mentioned something about maple sugaring too, and i wonder if he is back east. Which makes me wonder if you Alicia are also back east.

All I know is I tend to wonder too much, and for a fact I am back east.

At least no one asks 'Now why don't he write' ;-)

Seth's a native Mainer and lives in Maine now.

I am a native New Englander (though not a native Mainer), but my husband, Dave, and I live in Maine.

I see you're in New Hampshire, Lodge Pole. That's a great outdoor state with so many opportunities. I'm sure you enjoy it.

Yes I love NH. Tamworth is 14 miles south of the Kanc and about 1 mile to the ossipee's a sort of hidden jewel.

The ossipees's are a ringdike and once by chance I rented the trailer from Hell dead center up there. That place is gone now, but the same owner replaced that old trailer with a new one and he lives there now.

Usually I would be out sugaring this time of year, first harvest rites n' all, but last year the weather was poor and this it has been worse, however today looks like a great sugar day.

But we are headed to Champney Falls instead, light lunch (hot) there and tinker with the ice if it's safe.

I have no idea how to 'tie' this to the picture with the 'tie' and Seth.

I have for years suggested that they present me with relatively inexpensive REI (pick your favorite) 'money cards'.  $25 is exorbitant.  After a few holidays and birthdays, I have plenty to buy that piece of gear that I WANTED!
Then I send thank you notes (marketing for more next time) to all who contributed and mention, truly, how much use, fun and excitement I have received from their generous gifts.
Amazing how many of the cards you can get if you just happen to drop the idea around.  Usually they would not think of giving you anything anyway. This takes all the decisions and worry away about the right gift for that special person ....

Am I sounding too shallow here, now?
