1. At Outdoor Retailer I was given a full-size sample of the Odwalla Chocolate Protein Monster. It was delicious. I now look for it in stores. Very, very good.

2. I also was given some nuun samples and have been using them regularly for the past two months. I'm now a convert to them over Gatorade or other sugary energy drinks and have begun buying my own. I've also begun telling others about nuun (oh no, a convert).

I like that nuun is just about the electrolytes. If I need fuel I'm probably going to use one of my Honey Stinger gels or chews or a Clif shot, or whatever I prefer. The nuun tastes can seem a little flat at first, but I prefer that they're light, not heavy. I like tri-berry best. I also like that they comes in a small package; less waste, very convenient to carry.

I haven't tried the Camelbak Elixir or Clif electrolyte drink yet.

An easy light sports drink can be made at home by diluting any fruit juice to the correct sugar concentration and adding a little salt using my fruit-ade recipe
