Video: Erik Weihenmayer climbs The Naked Edge"
Ever wonder what it's like to climb a 5.11 route blind, like Erik Weihenmayer? Well, Weihenmayer has only climbed since losing his eyesight at age 13, so he can't compare experiences with sighted climbers. However, you can watch the 41-year-old (and Seven Summiteer) climb his hardest route to date, The Naked Edge in Colorado's Eldorado Canyon, in this Access Fund video from November 2009.

Great video. 5.11b is the hardest I was able to climb. Can't imagine even trying this sightless.

I have the movie "Touch The Top Of The World" which is the story of his summit of Everest. Its a very humbling and inspirational story to say the least. The book is pretty good as well.

Ok I'll be the wet blanket.
So much of climbing is visual. I am not sure this kid is receiving proper guidance. Whatever happened to “wait until you’re 18?” It is so easy to get real dead climbing the tough stuff. Climbing a real mountain is not like top roping in a gym. I am as amazed at this kid's moxie, as I was of that bear whisperer in Alaska (who eventually got mauled dead). But just because we can do something doe not make it a wise choice. His guardians need to re-evaluate the priorities here. Perhaps limit him to formula one racing…

I guess that "lost his eyesight at 13" part confused you.
Erik Weihenmayer is a full-fledged adult. He was born in 1968 and has been climbing for decades, including all Seven Summits. So, he's climbed some pretty tough mountains without sight.
