We are bringing our Boy Scout Troop to the Colorado National Monument tomorrow morning to participate in National Public Lands Day.
The boys are to help in relocating a portion of the Echo Canyon trail. We will start about 8:00 am and finish up about 4:30 pm with lunch provided by Subway. REI has also donated some gifts for the participants.
I am looking forward to this as it should be a lot of fun and a great way to give back to the Monument, a unique place which we use quite a lot.
I would encourage everyone to get out a enjoy the great places that have been set aside for all of us.

What a great time we had at the Monument on Saturday. There were 5 Scouts and 3 adults from our Troop.
Our Scouts were assigned to cut the new section of trail and to dig up the old stretch of trail so others could replant vegetation on it. Digging in the dirt was the perfect job for them.
The Rangers really appreciated the help and were impressed with the way the boys worked together and how quickly they got it done. We finished early so they had us go up on the slickrock section to make trail markers with the loose rocks.
REI gave every participant a plastic water bottle and a nice coolmax t-shirt.
The boys were really proud of 'their' trail and can't wait to go hiking on it.
Here's a link to the local news broadcast where one of our Scouts gets a brief interview:
