Andy just left Lafayette, Louisiana where he gave two great programs.  We've bestowed upon him an honorary "cajun" title for bravely trying the fabulous spicey food.  Get there early to this event.  Andy packed both of the Lafayette programs.  He really is a great person to be with.

Guyz,

Just saw the Alaska slide show last night here in Knoxville...outstanding. I'm going to try and go back for the "gear and skills" seminar tonight, although I'm not sure I'll ever go that light. A 7 pound base weight sounds good and all, but frameless packs? I don't know...just sounds a little painful to me. I'm going to grill him (in a friendly manner) on that tonight if I get to go. :)

I know what you mean, but the guy has great arguements for his choices.  Remember, his sole objective is to hike.  He gets up packing and is on the move almost imediately.  He averages between 18-30 miles per day.  Tough to smell the roses:P

I use a frameless pack also.  You just have to really put everything in its place for it to fit right and feel good.  Remember too, his Golite Jam only weights 2 pounds.  That's a 5 pound difference from my old Osprey Argon 70.  [5 lps!]
