Private Message Moderation... hmmmm.

I was wondering if there was any type of moderation being implemented to the private message feature. There is a reason why I am asking this and I will get into it further after initial replies to this thread. Thanks.

Ok, I just got a private message from a woman looking for a relationship. Hey, I am married with kids!!!! This is also a second complaint about inappropriate use of this website.

Yea, new members, one from private message and another from a thread. I hope someone doesn't advertise for Viagra. At lease I am able to erase the private message. I hate it when some #@#$% ruins things for others.

I've got a decent idea, I'm not sure if they can implement it or not.

Nobody should be allowed to do private messaging until they have posted on 10 topics in the forums.

This will prevent new joiners from spamming us in messages when they've never even posted once in the forums.

And the OGBO got the same message from a "maka2131 at hotmail". Hotmail, as many of you already know, is a major source of spam, phishing, and similar junk. There is a way to block all Hotmail from some email services, but not that I know of for PMs.

Oh Great Guru and Techie Dave, please find a way to block such things!

iclimb- good idea. I was also thinking about a tab to flag as spam or an ignore user tab. Maybe a filter that picks up certain dialogue... Ideas are fairly easy to come up with... the implemetation and making it "user friendly" can be a whole different story.

OGBO-Maka was the one who messaged me.

I also got the Maka message. We have a date set next week. Only catch is, she has to meet me on top of Old Rag in Shenandoah... oh ya, and my wife will be there to say hello to her as well. :)

That gal is going to blow a chunk of change on plane fare trying to find her perfect fellow... especially since most of us are married.  At the very least, she'll get to see some great peaks (Baldy - Pioneer range will be our first date).  :D

Yes, I got the same garbage.

I got the message from "maka" as well. I think Iclimb's minimum posting idea might work. Or it might just result in an increase of meaningless postings.

Is messaging from Trailspace to external mail possible? If so, I agree with FSTS, I wouldn't want an entire web client like hotmail blocked. I do know people who legitimately use Hotmail and other older services.

You can friend Trailspace on FB. Some people are looking for their 6000th friend! All I'm saying, is we will get trolls from other networks if we make it easy for them. I found Trailspace by searching backpacking forums. Not becouse of an add on a social forum.

Photo of the boat is absolutely a prerequisite for a first date where I'm from.

Of course now a days they can get the photo from Google Image; I guess that's fair since the guys buy the engagement (diamonelle) ring with 5 easy payments from QVC. Sometimes the ring has to wait until the guys truck 'hunting dog box' is paid for which gives the gal time to find a good deal on a used boat.

That aint so far from the truth.

I met my wife in the parking lot of a small corner market / junkyard / hardware store / poker machine room / beer mart / etc. while showing her how I could do doughnuts on my motorcycle around the burn barrel. With a beer between my legs.

I'm not sure what that says about either one of us, but it's true.

I started on a big wheel at a young age, but won my wife with a 1976 Honda CJ 360. She loved to go for a ride around the block.

Thanks scott!!! great jobs!!!   Dave I have a question not about PM's but. The Facebook feature that we can friend TS to FB. Can people see the articles and comment there and can they be included on the forum? I was wondering because a friends NEWS Website does that. Is it possible? Might help TS and increase public awareness and increase sales for your business and non profit expenditures..Just a thought..

Denis: We post articles to the Trailspace Facebook page and people can (and do) comment on them there. You can also like and share articles, products, and reviews from here on the site. Just look for an click the "Like" button -- it's a great way to spread the word about Trailspace.

Facebook makes it pretty easy to display Facebook comments on your own site, but I'm not sure there's any way to actually integrate those with our own forums and article comments.
