The Brunton and MSR canisters are made by the same company in Korea. Same canister, same fuel.
It is generally true that the various brands with the same fitting can be used, but make sure you test the canister/stove fit at home before heading to the hills. The different manufacturers may have different manufacturing tolerances on the threads and the height of the fitting. They may not fit exactly in practice.
