waterproofing degradation

After some time in storage, it looks like the waterproofing on the fly and floor of my tent has degraded and has creatid a sticky film. Is there any remedy / solution to this?
Thank you.

Re: waterproofing degradation

Depends on the tent and what it is made out of. Some can be recoated, some probably not. Try doing a Yahoo search; something might turn up.

Re: waterproofing degradation

I have had this happen with quite a bit of pricey gear, it is a royal pita! I store all my gear and i have a LOT in pillowcases on ventilated plastic shelving in my gear room which seems to work.

Do not store tents, etc., in stuff sacks, closed containers, especially metal or plastic ones and keep it DRY. Once you get that rancid odour of deteriorating PU coating, IME, the item is ruined, no matter what you do.

Sylnylon products don't seem to have this problem as severely as PU-coated nylon does.
