Shock cords

I just posted a review, and stated that I had replaced a pole on my tent with a heavier pole that I sawed to size. There are three peaces to the pole. Just what does the shock cord do? Is it just to keep the pole together for storage? Or does it have another function that I dont understand? The pole is only 68.75" long.

Re: Shock cords

It makes it easier to put the poles together and keeps them together. In the old days before shock corded poles, sometimes as you pushed the poles thru the pole sleeves on a tent they would come apart midway thru and pinch the sleeve.

They are nice cause when you grab a pole by one end when you take it out the pole just kinda snaps into place and stays that way.
