Don't worry about the "discontinued". Companies do that with perfectly good designs of gear. It's a sales tactic - the new version has a new name that helps shout "NEW! IMPROVED!" when the reality is that the changes are minor. I forget right now what the replacement for the Crescent is called, but my recollection from the OR Show last month is that it is very similar with some minor "improvements" and cosmetic changes (new colors, too! wow!)

I have an Aether 60, which is what went up Kilimanjaro with me and I use for weekend backpacks plus getting climbing gear to the foot of climbs. The Aethers are plenty rugged. But I like the color of mine better than next season's colors for the Aether (as if color makes a difference in comfort, utility, or anything else).

The numbers for Osprey packs are the nominal capacity in liters - 60 = 60 liters; 70 = 70 liters; 85 = 85 liters. So the Crescent 85 is 15 liters bigger than the Aether 70, something like 5000 cu in vs 4000 cu in
