I have some old Vasques and they used to make a good boot, I haven't bought any recently, though. However, comparing the Vasque Summit GTX - http://www.rei.com/product/764062?cm_re=lead*lead*vasque_summit

with the Alico Summit - http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,61270_Alico-Summit-Backpacking-Hiking-Boots-For-Men.html

it looks clear that the Alico is a better boot at a lower price. The Alico's are leather-lined (once you've tried leather-lined boots, you can't go back) so they won't over-heat like the GTX; they are Norwegian-welt, so they can be re-soled; they have the dependable Vibram lug sole and heel; they have one-piece leather uppers; they weigh only 2 oz more than the Vasque, but they are made in Italy, not China.

The Vasque claim to have waterproof leather, but then put in a Gore-tex liner???

Limmer Lightweights would be another good option, IMO.
