looking for new lighter more compact stove,that simmers!

optimus crux lite,backpacker says it will simmer,REI says it wont,12 reviews,6 say good temp. control,5 say bad temp. control.how can there be such symmetrical opposite opinions?DOES IT SIMMER?does anybody even know?

It will simmer, but there are more suitable stoves if you are doing real cooking, and not just boiling water.

The Snow Peak Giga does a reasonable job of simmering.

It's a little larger than what you are looking at, but the MSR Windpro simmers well, and, being a freestanding stove instead of canister-mounted, it is much more stable.  That is an important consideration when you are doing any cooking that requires stirring.

I prefer the Crux Lite over the Giga because the larger diameter burner head is less apt to create a hot spot and scorch.  The WindPro is my cooking stove and it has great heat control.  Alas the Wind Pro is not light weight as canister stoves go.
