atmos 50, 65 vs z-55
I am new to non-military camping and backpacking so i am looking for some info on these two packs. I was in the army for 12 years so every thing I have used for quite a while has been issued. My torso in 18" I am 5'8" and currently a little heavy 193#s. I plan on mostly doing overnighters and 2 nights. If all goes well this year maybe longer trips later. Also my cousin swares by REI, if i get a bag there and use it then find out i realy don't like will they realy take it back? Adam adam_d_mednick@yahoo.com

Any good soldier I'd think, could make do with 50L pack 3-4 nights or more, in summer, with everything personal nicely packed away inside. Making separate allowances, of course, for various military equipment.
Trimness is indeed a great virtue for certain purposes, and for single nights in summer, a pack of 40L can be very good, but versatility increasingly suffers the smaller you go.
And not infrequently, perhaps, a smaller pack even of 55 liters is just a horrible inconvenience, or not even an option.
Somewhat less than optimally, I have both 50, 55 liter packs, and another much larger. None are of extraordinary quality, (this is not really permitted to novices) yet they are highly functional.

Does anyone else have any time spent with any of these packs?
