Alaska Mountaineering boots

Hi,
I'm heading to Alaska in May for a 2 week course (Denali region-day n' night outside kind of fun) and am looking for a good pair of boots that will be warm, dry and comfortable (i.e. make it somewhat of a comfy trip, given the location). I spent hours already on online reviews and all but it's hard to tell what's really good since no one really mentioned Alaska mountaineering when rating the boots. I was told by a friend that plastic boots are the way to go or else you get wet and cold after a few days out there, but then, I have other folks who suggest the La Sportiva Nepal Extremes (but they appear leathery to me, wouldn't those finally give out and start absorbing after multiple days in wet conditions?) I've owned plastic Koflach boots before and was ok with them but they are now old and were always used for smaller day trips/ice climbing and the temperatures were not as stiff as I'm expecting in AK. Any advice?
Thanks in advance.

I assume from your statement that you are going on a 2-week course that this will be on glacier, probably on the Ruth. If so, double plastics are the way to go. The Nepal Extremes are basically just that - they were designed for that type of conditions, but with added flexibility and much lighter than most traditional plastics. But I wouldn't worry about your "old" Koflachs. I still use my 12 year old Scarpa Invernos, though I did replace the original liners with thermofits about 5 or 6 years ago. You might consider getting a set of thermofit liners. If you are indeed going into the Ruth, the Koflachs will be plenty warm.

Thanks Bill, it's always nice to hear that you don't have to get the latest techno-gear in order to have a good time. I'll take a look at the thermofit liners and see what it's all about...
Cheers!
