Hey guys, I'm currently looking for a warm, light-weight winter jacket to wear in the cold New York City winters. I've been seeing a lot of really great reviews about the North Face Plasma, almost to the effect that you can wear just a t-shirt underneath. Is this really true, the jacket seems solid but not that warm. On the other hand th the Patagonia Wanaka Down. It's 600-fill down and also water proof. Any ideas on which would be best? I've also looked at the Nau Rheostat: its 850-fill down but pricy.

Let me know what you guys think!

While I haven't heard anything on those jackets specifically, here's my take on down jackets:

Warmest for the weight, on the cheap = Eddie Bauer Dowlight sweater

Warmest for the weight = Montbell Alpine Light Jacket or Westbomb Chilko
