My first tent was purchased circa 1978 to 1981 and was a tepee style made by sierra designs.this was a great tent as it had three exterior poles and not one center pole like the new one they make..can anyone tell me the name of this tent? i would like to search and see if anyone has one for sale..alas i ruined mine at a high school kegger...around 1983

Alan, that looks a lot like the Scott tent, which I have seen in articles on Antarctica. The Scott tent is really heavy-70 lbs I think, but similar design.

Tom, it would be interesting to see where the tent idea originated, may have been Scott.  With 3 poles, the Sierra Designs tent would likely be fairly stable and you could stand up to change clothes.  I've never seen one in the flesh, but would love to try one on a trip.
