Re: Loss of a 4 legged hiking partner
Off-Topic Forum
Ed,
I'm very sorry for your loss. Since we lost Orion we've been dealing with it alright, I guess. We have a younger female terrier mix that keeps us occupied.
Since our loss, it seems that people want to help - a lot. We've had 6 or 7 different offers or suggestions to adopt dogs, anything from Lab/Border Collie mixes to American Bull Dogs (champion show stock) to a Boston Terrier and an 8 y.o. Jack Russell. I appreciate the offers, but every time someone mentions a dog, we are again reminded that we lost a great one. I don't know, I hate to sound so picky, but I guess when the right dog comes along, I'll know. For now I'm content with the one dog we do have. She's no hiker though. She's scared of everything.
What ever you decide, should you chose a replacement for your 4 legged partner, let me suggest a shelter dog. American shelters are way too full of great but unwanted pets. Many, many of which are the best dogs in the world - they just fell on bad circumstances.

With sympathy my friend, keep your chin up.
