I was reviewing some photos I took along the trail last year and ran across this one from near a cabin on a trail into the Desolation Wilderness (west of Lake Tahoe).  Someone had a bad paddling trip! :)

Uhm, Ouch.

What material was that? Looks kinda thin and brittle. Wonder if it was rapids or a rabid bear.

That looks like an old fiberglass boat.  River paddlers see this kind of stuff all the time.  If you paddle in varying conditions you are going to get wet.  So plan ahead with a decent quality lifejacket and dress for immersion, especially if the water and/or the air are cold.
