I moved to Colorado about ten months ago. A friend of mine will be visiting this fall. We want to photograph the Maroon Bells and go hiking in that area. Any suggestions on good hikes to take?

is a trip report around the area.  If you are looking for aspen color, mid September is when it starts at higher elevations.  It is usually over when weather comes in and strips the trees.

The hike up to Snowmass Lake - just south of Snowmass CO.  Lots of aspen groves and beaver ponds.,-107.01490&z=13&t=T

Other areas around the town of Aspen would include the trail up toward Conundrum Hot Springs (natural - clothing optional), but it is a fairly hefty hike up to 11,200' and except for the fit would be an overnight.  No view of the Bells however.,-106.88779&z=15&t=T

And of course Independence Pass by car.

There are hiking guides at outfitting stores (e.g, REI) bookstores of hikes specifically in the region with notes relating to fall and spring colors.
