We are regular participants in the High Sierra Topix forums, where we have met many really good people who love backpacking in the Sierra. And one of those people, a very regular contributor to those boards, went missing last October as he hiked in the Sierra. Despite a major search effort, no trace of Larry was ever found.
Several High Sierra Topix members and some of Larry's friends from SoCal are now organizing a search at the end of July to see if they can bring some closure to his family. If you'd like to take part in this effort, you can learn more about it here:

P is speaking at a conference in Florida during those dates, so we will not be able to take part of this operation, but we will be there in spirit!

I'm so sorry to hear of this gentleman being lost, and wish you the best of luck in the admirable effort to resolve things for his friends and family.

My doctor was killed last summer in a hiking accident. He was very experienced, but got a late start climbing a peak and came down in the dark without an ice axe and crampons. He made a bad step and slid to his death.
