Go to  http://onthegomap.com/#/create  and creat a map of a intended or already followed route to get the mileage. Start at any point in the USA or world. Zoom into where ever your starting point is then follow the routes and click on different points as you go to calculate the distance and show the route on the map.

When you are finished you can save the map.

I hope this works for anyone trying, I am using a Google Chromebook but it also works on an Android.

This URL shows a mapped route I did yesterday.  The blue line is the route I saved. http://goo.gl/Fpy8tO

Thanks, Gary. That's a very cool website - it actually 'knows' where the good bike vs car vs walking routes are in my home town and surrounding area.

Yes, and it also knows what routes are open and what ones aren't. Here in Jackson Hole I was scouting a route up and around the Elk Refuge which in late spring was still closed to the public so not to harass the Elk. When I tried to map and see the distances it would not map certain areas because it was still closed.

I like how it tells the milage as you click the routes.
