Has anyone out there been to Grandfather Mountain on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, just found out about it on the web, looks like an excellent place. Please let me know if its worth the 5 hour drive for me. Thanks.
Yes, I have hiked on that mountain many times- even have the t-shirt. It is a tough mountain and it is common for people to get hurt and be taken off the mountain by those professional rescue peoples. I did the profile trail a few years back and was happy happy that I did not have a backpack on. I was wondering why the first backpacker's campsite was so close to the beginning part of the trail-- I was sore for about two weeks. It's a killer. I do go there about every year though and there is plenty non-painful things to do there as well.
