rocky mountain national park in late may
hello! I a will be spending four days in RMNP in late may (26-30). I had originally planned on backpacking in the bear lake area but was told it may be snow-covered. Is it still feasible to day hike in this area? Does anyone have suggestions for other day hikes in the park that will be doable with no snow equipment? We don't have crampons, winter boots etc. thanks!!!

Re: rocky mountain national park in late may
I have spent Memorial Day week in Estes Park/RMNP for the last six or seven years. It's a great time to go while the traffic is not too bad. The trails at the 9,000 feet altitude like Bear Lake are usually snowbound at that time. The backpacking camping sites (which are by permit) will usually be snowbound, too. However, there is rarely much snow at the lower elevations like Moraine Park, which has some great trails. The developed campgrounds will be open. I also enjoy walking up the Fall River road which isn’t open to automobile traffic until late June or early July.

I am planning a trip in the Hague Creek area this July. Just wandering if you have any info on some base campsites around that area so we can get use to the elevation before our trek?
