I am looking for ideas for places to go in the area for dayhikes and/or 2 to 3 day trips. If anyone is in the area or has experience here I could use some advice. My wife and I are new to backpacking and I'm looking for some good noobie trails that preferably aren't too crowded (if those even exist). I've found a couple of the well known ones that I would like to try but I'm looking for any suggestions from the great Trailspace community who's opinions I have come to respect. Thanks in advance. :) -Geoff

I'm in Grand Junction so not exactly local to you but here are some of the resources I use to look for places to go.

Backpacker magazine Colorado hikes:

GORP Colorado:

National Forest Service Colorado:

I would recommend National Geographic's Topo! Colorado software for planning and executing your trips. It has all the topo maps for the state which you can print and take with you. I also use Google Earth to scope out potential hikes and routes. There are so many great areas and trails in this state that it is hard to go wrong.
