Finished the Cline River loop, and still had a few hours left before supper, so we decided to take a walk along the shore of Abraham lake. Strange to be going DOWN to our destination instead of up, but it was a nice walk and well worth the effort.

We started at the Cline River delta and followed the shoreline east along the lake. Water levels are very low now, and won't increase until around the end of July and into August, so much of the area is exposed that would normally be covered up.

The 'beach' itself is rocky cobbles of varying sizes with level benches from previous high water levels. Those benches are easier to walk on but the footing is still tricky. Because the lake acts as a reservoir, the ice level is well above the water level.

Above the rocks, deposits of sediment, gritstone and jumbled rock form high cliffs. Once you start, you have to go quite a way before being able to climb out.

We finally got to a place where we could get back up, and we were able to follow the cliff tops back to our starting point.

Nothing particularly strenuous, but again some great views, and a walk that was a bit different from our usual ones.
