Not many (close) options for backcountry where I'm at so my buddy and I decided to camp out on the Rock River at Prophetstown State Park.

As much as I hate being around people while camping it was nice to get out and wake up in my tent. What shocked me is that there was no bugs! We didn't have to use the spray once and not a single bug was near us. Very surprising considering we were feet from the river.

I have a reservation at another camp ground for Memorial Day weekend. I wanted to go in the sticks but we're taking my girlfriends family. They have a 1 & 2 year old so it would've been hell being in the back country lol.

here's a few pics-

First nights spot

Only fish I caught the whole weekend :( My pole flew in the water and I had to jump in after it!

Second nights site. We decided to move to the corner of the park. It had a backwater stream we assumed held catfish/bass at night. I feel we would've had good luck fishing if there wasn't 30 fisherman around us.

I'm going camping on near a favorite fishing spot Saturday. Will be nice to be alone! Thanks for looking.

Looks like a real nice spot. Sometimes its nice to stay in improved camped sites, especially if theres real young kids and folks not much for camping. They enjoy real restrooms.

Thanx for sharing and have a good time on Memorial Day weekend.

Hey, wakin up in the tent in woods is still wakin up in the tent in the woods, even when your truck is parked only twenty feet away. I take what I can get, when I can get it. Better than being home in front of the TV.

+1 to Jerseywd.

I don't mind going for an easy walk at a busy tourist site if that's what it takes to get me out of town. One bad day in the mountains is worth ten good ones in the city.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I went to a campground all memorial day weekend. Was nice but the 1 and 2 year old kids were kind of a pain. I plan on doing a nice trip by myself soon!
