They didn't come easy, but I can scratch Mt. Bierstadt and Mt. Evans from the list...

The view from the parking lot at Guanella Pass just before sunrise, with Bierstadt on the right, the Sawtooth center and the shoulder of Evans on the left.

Looking west at our previous conquests, Grays and Torreys, from the Bierstadt trail.

A pretty easy hike and we had bagged Bierstadt, but the fun was just getting started...

First a mad scramble through a boulder field down to the saddle,

then a traverse of a ledge across the sheer face of the Sawtooth (that's me trying not to look down).

It was a little hairy, but the view from the top of the Sawtooth was well worth it.

Taking a quick snack break on the way to Evans...

...which we topped as the clouds were starting to roll in.

Making it official.

There was a ridiculously steep descent through a rock-strewn ravine (on the left - more of a goat trail, really), then the rain moved in just as we were slogging our way through a couple of miles of swamp at the base of the Sawtooth. Soaked to the bone and pretty beat by the time we got back to the car...about 10 miles, according to the guide, and almost 10 hours on the trail.

The Sawtooth section is no joke. Not for the faint.
