This morning I was going to hike to Red Hollow "and" Red Cave but the summer heat and soft sand of the route slowed me down and I just did Red Hollow.

Entrance road to Red Hollow

Red Hollow at about 730 am still in shade of Elkheart Cliffs above

Sandstone formation in wash near Red Hollow

Same sandstone formation up close

Early morning sunshine on Elkheart Cliffs above lower Red Hollow

Entrance to narrows of Red Hollow

Sandstone layers visible in Red Hollows wall

Stump and stone in floor of Red Hollow

Mouse found along wash, it looked like it had been attacked by something, I nudged it and it was still alive making a squeak, but not moving otherwise

I have to work on some of the other shots and will post them later...

Looking back west out from the mouth of Red Hollow

The village town of Orderville Utah from a ridge south of Red Hollow

Rolling ridges of sand dunes covered in Juniper,Cedar and pines as far as the horizon looking southwest

A lone Ponderosa Pine stands over the lower end of Red Hollows canyon, looking west

Tiny Prickly Pear cacti and a fruit growing in the sand

I am home now, listening to the thunder in the distant north. The rainy season is coming slowly to the area. August brings Monsoon rains in down pours. Its cooled off now here.

Thanks, Gary!

I don't know the current fire situation in S. Utah: Allowing for that, I've figured for quite some time that S. Utah the best value vacation area for desert scenery, not to mention recreation, in the US--it's magical!

Five mystical National Parks--fittingly, a great white throne of God! Magnificent National Monuments and National Forests. History, tragedy, and victory--animated ancients echo with the winds through Utah's arches and canyons! Heat shimmers fervently from its boulders--it's a dream!

looks like you live in a beautiful area. I couldn't take the heat in the summers though.

Fall and Spring are nice, come in October and April. Been on some nice midwinter hikes when the country was dry. Seen Mtn Lion tracks just a few mile west of where I work.
