The Midwest
I'm from AZ. I made my first ever trip to the midwest a week ago. I was amazed by the beauty. I thought it was going to be nothing but cows and corn. There are some stunning state park trails! I was in Missouri, Iowa, Wisc and Illinois. I did day hikes and car camping. The trails are well maintained and virtually vacant. The leaves were changing color and it was like heaven. Cool temps and clean air. Some of the parks had 25-75 miles of trails. I hope to get back there again.

Yes, Andy Girl, the Midwest is under-rated, and we have some beautiful parks; although I do love the canyonlands. The nice part about the midwest is that if make the effort even to go a mile away from the public campground you have relative solitude. Try Michigan some time. The fall is stunning.
