I wrote about this hike on my blog.

This was my third try; the other two times I got turned back by snow.

Thanks. I'm in this weird place where most of my readers are from the Bay Area, where I blogged about hiking for five years, but now all my hikes are in the Carolinas these days.

What amazes me about hiking on this end of the country is that despite the proximity to civilization, the trails can be markedly more rugged than any I experienced in the West.

I don't know how Tipi Walter hauls 80 pounds over these trails.
