Last weekend Oklahoma Outdoor Network put together a weekend trail maintenance trip in part with FoOT, Friends of the Ouachita Trail. Cedar Lake was our base camp. From there we went out and worked on a few sections of the trail.

Saturday evening we had a dutch oven feast. Some folks folks firing up the ovens.

Kept seeing this Blue Heron.

One of my favorite views from the trail I worked on.

It was a lot of fun. Hopeful that I can go back in a few weeks when foliage is at it's peak.

The lake looks nice - really peaceful, and not all built up like lakes in so many areas.

The Ouachita Trail is on my list of must do's in the next couple of years. I want to do a thru hike of it, although I will probably start with some section hikes. Great pics.

Sounds like a good time ambersdad, nice shot of the lake.

I hope you get to go back out.

What kind of trail maintenance did you guys do?

Thanks everyone.

We pruned branches back, removed seedlings, and things like that.

I spent about 2 1/2 hours with a weed whip cutting weeds and grass along about 1/4 mile of the trail along a ridge where it gets a lot of sun.  That part of the trail is designated a wilderness area so no power tools.

Also removed dead fall.

I have some blazes to add to part of the trail that has been rerouted in my section.
