Recent Base Layer Bottom Reviews

Terramar Men's Silk Pant

rated 2 of 5 stars Great pajamas, poor base layer. Thermasilk base layer from Terramar is not adequate for outdoor sports or any type of physical activity: It is far too weak and fragile. It is too thin to provide any warmth, and when wet, they feel cold. They will rip and shred if worn in an endurance sports or hard work setting. Also, they do not hold their shape. Hand-washing brings back their original shape, but they become limp after a couple of days out in the field. On the other hand, they make the best pajamas,… Full review

Patagonia Men's Capilene Lightweight Bottoms

rated 4.5 of 5 stars Go-to sleeping bottom. These are my go-to sleeping bottoms.  They're light enough to wear in the summer, provide a good base layer for the winter, and are more comfortable than laying directly on nylon or whatever. I've never gotten them wet but assume they would dry fast. They fit well, and have a functional fly. One extra chilly day I hiked most of the morning in them before I noticed the micro grid pattern on the inside was causing chafing. Wouldn't recommend putting miles in with these. Great… Full review

Ibex Men's Woolies 2 Bottom

rated 5 of 5 stars My butt always froze on a wet ski lift—until these. These rock—no problems after 9 years. Very comfortable and never overheating thanks to the way merino regulates temperature. Wool keeps you warm even when wet. Never gotten moist from sweat, wicks well. Still looks new, quality durable construction. Full review

Patagonia Men's Merino Air Bottoms

rated 5 of 5 stars The Patagonia Merino Air Bottoms exceeded my expectations. Game changing merino-synthetic fabric with no seams and effortless stretch. Material that breathes, holds heat, and moves water away from your skin as you heat up. Patagonia is one of the companies that other brands hate and simultaneously wish they could be.  The Merino Air Bottoms are made from recycled polyester and merino wool (the stuff men's suits are made of) grown in Patagonia.  I used to think that no single baselayer material… Full review

Avalanche Wear Mogul Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars Most comfortable pants EVER. Bought a pair of these last week and I really don't want to wear anything else now. The fit is excellent and form flattering. The outer material is smooth polyester and seems to block wind as a previous reviewer mentioned. The inside is soft cozy fleece. Not sure if the waistband has elastic or what, but it is padded for comfort and hugs your waist without pinching at all. The zip pocket is a great size and large enough to carry credit cards, tissues, lip balm, etc. Full review

Coldpruf Men's Platinum Pants

rated 5 of 5 stars Best bang for the buck in long underwear. Perfectly comfortable, durable, warm, and air dry fast. Bought mine from Campmor. Reordered more when I realized how good they were. Made next door in Mexico. Full review

Smartwool Women's NTS Mid 250 Bottom

rated 5 of 5 stars These are without a doubt the best long johns I have ever owned! I am 5'7", 125lbs and I bought the mediums. They fit like a glove (well literally as they are next to skin). So comfy and non restricting, you barely notice you have them on. I did a lot of research in my quest for super warm long johns and came to the conclusion that wool was going to be the warmest. I am not disappointed. The waistband is wider so they don't roll down as some other brands do. I love being outdoors but don't like… Full review

Avalanche Wear Mogul Pant

rated 5 of 5 stars These pants are incredible. I've worn and washed them 100 times and they still look and feel new. These pants are INCREDIBLE. I have washed and worn them 100 times. Not only have I been wearing them as a base layer under my ski pants but I wear their legging style all winter. Since I live in leggings all year these are perfect for winter because they have a fleece lining and I swear they are wind block (even though I don't think they are). Anyway, I have been reading about other people's pants pilling,… Full review

Avalanche Wear Mogul Pant

rated 1.5 of 5 stars Do not pay full price! These are very warm, and have a great athletic look. But the inner thigh started to pill after just a few hours of moderate activity. I'm 5 feet tall, 118 pounds, usually wear a size 6, and the small fit great after I hemmed them 4 inches. But because of the pulling, they are for only around the house now. Not that anyone is looking at my crotch to see the pilling, but still. Glad I had an extra 35% off at STP, because I would have been livid if I had paid full price. But… Full review
