Berghaus Trango Extreme Jacket

rated 5 of 5 stars

The Trango Extreme Jacket has been discontinued. If you're looking for something new, check out the best waterproof jackets for 2024.

I have owned my Trango Extreme Jacket for 15 years and worn it in the European Alps, Scotland, New Zealand, Norway, The Indian Himalayas and North America. It is heavy, but amazingly durable and totally bomb proof.

Everything can be adjusted wearing mitts and the hood will fit over just about anything and can be tightened down so that just a slot about 6" x 3" is open so you can see out. The wired hood keeps the wind, wet and snow at bay. When the weather really cuts up rough, ie. hurricane force winds, lashing rain or blasting snow or hail, it is the only garment I own that I really feel secure in.

It is not the most comfortable garment, being heavy, stiff and bulky, but will outperform everything else I own when the chips are down. I climbed Mount Rainier, solo through the night climbing into a blizzard a few years ago. On the descent I came upon the first and only guided group about an hour off the summit. They said I looked like an ice mummy, completely plastered in rhyme. The thing was, I still felt secure and protected as if I was wearing a suit of armour.

I've had my Trango XCR for about one year now, and it's not failed to impress. Have been hiking across the mountains in NZ's south island, skiing off a volcano in the north island, and walked thru the miserable lake district in winter, and the jacket has just performed flawlessly.

Good array of useful pockets - pockets that work with a pack in place. Internal waist skirt a big bonus, especially for skiing. Keeps me warm and dry all the time. Just a bit on the heavy side to use on its own as a waterproof shell in slightly better weather conditions.

Fabric: Gore-tex XCR

In my opinion this jacket is perfect for every action! It is made out of a extreme hard-wearing Gore-Tex fabric, which also is very light.

Features: Diamet gore-tex reinforcement at shoulders and sleeves, rest Ascent gore-tex. Fixed hood with new horizontal adjuster. Articulated sleevs.

Two chest pockets.

Sizes: S-XL

Colours: 1. Green/Marine/Yellow

2. Blue/Cherry red/yellow

3. Cherry red/marine/yellow

A jakcet for all sorts of activity, summer and winter!!!

Fabric: 3-layer Gore-Tex (3-layer Gore -Tex Ascent / 3-layer Gore-Tex Diamet)

A top quality hard wearing jacket with sound features and good styling. Performes amazingly well in harsh winter conditions and has an extremely protective and comfortable hood. It has a large map pocket, 2 large front 3D pockets and 2 hand warmer pockets all out of the way of a harness. The don of all mountaineering jackets.
