Light and packable, but a little bit chilly.
- Stuffs well
- Easily attached to pad
- Doesn't live up to temp rating
The Gilpin is a fantastic bag for most 3-season backpacking. When I take it in the fall though, I tend to get some cold air from the bottom of the bag between where the pad attaches and the bag sits.
It's an earlier model Big Agnes, and they have probably improved on the design, but knowing that I would be a bit cold with the bag, I've had to take extra weight in the form of a fleece blanket.
Here's what other sites are saying:
When the sun sets and the backcountry gets chilly, crawl into the Big Agnes Gilpin Sleeping Bag and enjoy the warmth of 600-fill goose down. This mummy bag insulates well during those cold autumn nights without turning into a sweaty cocoon during the summer months. Big Agnes gave the bag a sleeping pad sleeve instead of underside insulation, so you can choose a sleep pad that suits the current temperature.
