This tent is roomy for 2-3 people. Not for backpackers, but fine for modest car campers.

  • Roomy
  • Easy set-up
  • Fine ventilation

  • Mesh roof keeps inside cool.

This is a nice tent when you want a base camp for day hikes, or are not backpacking. It's a dome style, using just two long criss-crossing poles for the body and one for the fly over the door and back window. Pitching is easy, I can do it myself, but a helper makes it easier. It's stable in light winds, and the fly supplies full coverage.

The tent is tall enough to stand in, stooped over, and provides a nice roomy space for a couple and our gear. You can just step over the threshold rather than getting on your knees as you must for a backpack tent. If you want to get cushy, you could fit a double air-bed inside and still have room for gear.

The tent packs slightly larger than a backpack tent, so finding space for it in a compact car is easy.

I got the tent used at the REI parking lot sale and had to patch a small hole in the bottom — use a tarp or footprint to preserve the bottom. The mesh roof and smooth body are good quality, and the fly looks durable enough to handle a Sierra rainstorm.
