Black Diamond Cayenne Glove

rated 1 of 5 stars

Did not stand up to a 20-degree day downhill skiing.

Pros

  • The gloves look really cool

Cons

  • The gloves do not keep you warm

The bottom line is that these gloves simply do not suffice in any sort of cold weather conditions. They may be nice for a warm spring skiing day, but that's about it.

My wife struggles with cold hands in the winter and thought that these would be a great alternative to hand-warmers inside the mittens. We got these and she tried them out on a moderately cold, 20 degree (F) day downhill skiing. Within an hour her hands were cold, even on the highest setting. She had to switch back to the cheap mitts and hand-warmer inserts.

If you are intent on battery-heated hand-ware, maybe try the Cayenne mittens, but do not try these gloves. I read some positive reviews on other sites for the gloves, but at this point I do not find them reliable.

There are some positives: They look really great on, and are easy to charge, turn on, and adjust the temperature. They are not bulky or cumbersome, they fit true to size. We did not have the chance to evaluate durability, water resistance, or breathability (do you want heated gloves to breath?). They do appear to be made of durable materials, true to the Black Diamond label.

I just can't imagine these fitting any desired purpose. If you have poor circulation (like my wife) and would like extra warmth in a ski glove, these do not work. If you have normal or above normal thermoregulatory capabilities in your extremities, then you might be looking for these gloves to use in extreme or below-normal temperatures. In that case, they wouldn't work either.

The gloves might fit the bill if you are interested in showing off all of your battery powered gear, or if you really need to get a little more low-frequency electromagnetic radiation....while you ski.
