The Black Diamond Tripod Bivy is the best I've ever…

Rating: rated 5 of 5 stars
Source: bought it new
Price Paid: $299

Summary

The Black Diamond Tripod Bivy is the best I've ever used. It is absolutely stormproof and well worth the cost.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Extremely well made with excellent materials and workmanship
  • Waterproof / storm proof
  • Roomy

Cons

  • A little difficult to set up at first
  • Expensive
  • Little noisy

I've had several bivys over the years. This one is, across the board, the best of the bunch.

It's a little tricky to set up the first time, but after that, it's easy and fast. The bag is easy to get into. I managed to stuff my Exped down mat into it with a sleeping quilt to enjoy 25 degree temps while camping in the U.P. last spring. It is very comfortable to me, and stable.

Three stakes hold it steadfast to the ground so I could move around without bunching or twisting the fabric. I compare it to sleeping in a soft, safe cocoon.

The workmanship and materials are bombproof. As with all the Black Diamond products I have used, it is thoughtfully designed. Attention to detail is evident in all respects. It is expensive, but I think worth every penny.

I would definitely recommend it.
