I recently retired my trusty pair of Danner Mountain Light IIs after 10+ years of good service because my foot had outgrown them. I typically wear a wide width, so finding a good fitting boot can be tricky. I stumbled across the Big Sky Hiker while at the Hamburg, PA Cabela's store. Realizing that it was obviously modeled after my old Danners, I decided to look into it. I found precious few reviews online, but the ones that I was able to find seemed positive, so I gave the boot a try.
First off, the price is very good for a mid-weight, all leather (one-piece) Gore-tex boot. Second, Cabela's version is a bit wider than my wide Danners, so they fit well out of the box. They seem to be put together well, although the leather seems thinner than that of my Danners. This is good in that the break in time is less, but may turn out to be a downfall regarding longevity of the boot. Only time will tell.
All in all, if you like an old-school style Norwegian welt boot and have wide feet and are on a budget, give it a try.
